SSC Stenographer Exam Analysis and Syllabus

Exam Analysis, Syllabus and Topic wise Exam Pattern of SSC Stenographers (Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’) Examination:

Scheme of Examination:

The examination will consist of a Written Examination and Skill Test in stenography.

Written Examination (Objective multiple choice type):

The question paper contains 200 questions each of one mark comprising the three parts as:

Duration of Exam:

Total Duration of Examination for General candidates – 2 Hours

Total Duration of Examination for Visually Handicapped candidates– 2 Hours 40 mins.

Medium of Examination:

The questions will be set in Hindi/English in respect of Parts I and II.

Negative Marking:

There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Syllabus for written Examinations:

Part I. General Intelligence and Reasoning:

Syllabus: It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test will include questions on analogies, Similarities, and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidates abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.

(ii)         Odd word/letter/numbers – 6 questions

(iii)        Series with one term missing – 3 questions

(v)         Statements Conclusion – 2 questions

(v)         Odd in series – 1 question

(v)        Dictionary words arrangement – 2 questions

(vi)        Coding – 2 questions

(vii)       Meaningful words formation -1 question

(viii)      Address Matching– 2 questions

(ix)        Mathematical symbols – 2 questions

(x)        General Maths (distance/travel/electricity etc.) – 4 questions

(xi)       Sitting/row arrangements – 2 questions

Part II.  General Awareness:

Syllabus: Questions are designed to test the ability of candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc.

(ii)           Politics  – 6 questions

(iii)          History  – 5 questions

(iv)         Geography – 8 questions

(v)          Biology – 8 questions

(vii)        Chemistry – 4 questions

(viii)       Computer science – 1 question

(ix)         Environment – 2 questions

(x)          Awards  – 3 questions

(xi)         Sports –  2 questions

Part III. English Language:

Syllabus: Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. candidates writing ability, would also be tested. Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting Mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.

Topic wise Pattern of Part-III, SSC Stenographers Exam question paper, 2014 (100 questions):

(i)        Antonyms –  5 questions

(ii)       Synonyms – 5 questions

(iii)      Meaning of Idiom/Phrase –  5 questions

(iv)       Ordering the all parts/sentences in a passage  – 5 questions

(v)        Active/Passive Voice – 10 questions

(vi)       Sentence Improvement – 10 questions

(vii)      Direct/Indirect – 10 questions

(viii)     Identify the part of sentences for error/correct – 10 questions

(ix)        Filling blank in the Sentences  – 5 questions

(x)        Filling blank in the Passages – 20 questions

(xi)       Comprehension (three passages) – 15 questions

Skill test in Stenography:

The skill test will be of qualifying nature and the commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates.

The candidate will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English/ Hindi at the speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘C’  and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade ‘D’. The matter will have to be transmitted on computer only. The evaluation will be done electronically only. The time of transcription is as under:

Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 40 minutes (English) & 55 minutes (Hindi)

Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 50 minutes (English)  & 65 minutes (Hindi)
