SBI Bank PO Exam Pattern

Syllabus and Topic wise Pattern of Examination of Probationary Officers (PO) in Associate Banks of State Bank of India:

A) Phase-I: Consists of two parts:

(i) Objective Multiple Choice Type Test:

Objective Test will be online. The question paper contains 200 questions each of one mark. The question paper consists four parts as under:
Part-A Reasoning (High level)– 50 Questions,
Part-B General Awareness, Marketing & Computers – 50 Questions,
Part-C Data Analysis & Interpretation – 50 Questions,
Part-D English Language – 50 Questions.
Total Duration of Examination – 2 Hours

(ii) Descriptive Test:

The descriptive Test will be available online after completion of Objective Test and candidate will have to answer on the answer sheet (offline) provided to them on Paper/Pen mode.

The descriptive Test will be of “English Language (comprehension, short précis, letter writing & essay)” for 50 Marks.

Total Duration of Examination – 1 Hour

(B) Phase-II: Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)

(C) Numbers of Chances to appear in the recruitment examination are limited as under:
(i) General category candidate : 4
(ii) OBC & General (PWD) : 7
(iii) SC/ST : No Restriction.




Part A. Reasoning

Syllabus: It would include questions related to Ranking/Arrangement, Coding & decoding, Blood Relation, Symbol & Notation, Statement conclusion, Problem Solving, Number/word arrangement, Relation of statement with given data, Strong/inferior arguments, Consequence information/Assumption etc.

1. Verbal type:
(i) Ranking/Arrangement – 5 questions
(ii) Coding & decoding – 5 questions
(iii) Blood Relation – 5 questions
(iv) Symbol & Notation – 5 questions
(v) Statement conclusion– 5 questions
(vi) Problem Solving -3 questions
(vii) Number/word arrangement – 5 questions
(viii) Relation of statement with given data – 5 questions
(ix) Strong/inferior arguments – 2 questions
(x) Consequence information/Assumption – 2 questions
(xi) Misc – 5 questions

2. Non –Verbal type:
(i) Sequential Figures – 5 questions

Part B. General Awareness, Marketing and Computer:

Syllabus: It would include questions of Banking, Marketing, Finance, Export, Currency, Interest, Trade, Tax/Loan, Budget, Computer Science, Sports, Day, Book, Prize etc.

(i) Banking – 8 questions
(ii) Marketing – 12 questions
(iii) Finance – 10 questions
(iv) Computer science – 13 questions
(v) Sports – 3 questions
(vi) Day – 1 question
(vii) Book – 1 question
(viii) Prize – 1 question

Part C. Numerical Aptitude:

Syllabus: Data interpretation, Ratio, proportion, fraction, average, maximum, minimum, percentage, simple and compound interest, profit-loss etc.

(i) Line Graph – 5 questions
(ii) Radar Graph – 5 questions
(iii) Bar Graph – 5 questions
(iv) Pie Chart – 5 questions
(v) Histogram – 5 questions
(vi) Table – 15 questions
(vii) Combination of Pie Chart and Table – 5 questions
(viii) Misc simple math – 5 questions

Part D. English Language:

Syllabus: It would include questions related to Identify the part of sentences for error/correct, Filling blank in the sentences, Synonyms, Antonyms, Phrase replacement, Rearrangement of Sentences, Appropriate word/phrase in paragraph, Comprehension Passage etc.

Topic wise Pattern of Part-D of Question Paper in SBI Bank PO Question paper, 2014:

(i) Identify the part of sentences for error/correct – 7 questions
(ii) Filling blank in the sentences – 7 questions
(iii) Synonyms – 3 questions
(iv) Antonyms – 3 questions
(v) Phrase replacement – 8 questions
(vi) Rearrangement of Sentences – 5 questions
(vii) Appropriate word/phrase in paragraph – 10 questions
(viii) Comprehension Passage – 6 questions
