CDS Selection Process 2016 – Examination scheme

UPSC will conduct Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam I, 2016 on 14 Feb, 2016 for admission to the courses of Indian Military Academy(IMA), Indian Naval Academy(INA), Air Force Academy(AFA) and Officers Training Academy(OTA). Details of CDS Selection Process and Examination Scheme is as under:

Educational Qualification:

Note: Candidates who are studying in final year/semester Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply.

CDS Selection Process and Examination scheme:

The examination will consist two parts; (i) Written Examination will be conducted by UPSC and (ii) Interview for intelligence and personality test will be conducted by Services Selection Boards (SSB).

Written Examination (Objective multiple choice type):

(a) For admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Air Force Academy, exam scheme will be as:

The questions will be set in Hindi/English in respect of General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics.

Final CDS selection process :

  1. The UPSC shall prepare the list of candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written exam.
  2. Successful candidates in written exam shall be called for intelligence and personality test at the SSB based on their preference by the respective service HQ.
  3. Two stage selection procedure based on Psychological Aptitude test and Intelligence test has been introduced at SSB.
  4. All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres.
  5. Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests.
  6. Candidates will be placed in the order of merit on the basis of the total marks secured by them in the written Exam and in the SSB tests.
  7. The final selection will be made in order of merit subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects.
  8. Every candidate for the Air Force and Naval Aviation is given Pilot Aptitude Test only once. The grade secured by him at the first test CPSS (Computer Pilot Selection System) and/or PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test) will therefore good for every subsequent interview at Air Force Selection Board.
